About 114 victims of an
attack by Fulani Herdsmen in Kaduna have been buried in a mass grave in
Unguwant Gata, Maroa Chiefdom of Karua Local Government Area of the
state.
Sankwai, Tekum and Unguwan Gata villages in Maroa Chiefdom were on
Saturday, invaded by what villagers said were Fulani gunmen, killing
about 150 natives and burning the three villages, after plundering them
The burial comes as Southern Kaduna
Peoples Union (SOKAPU) says that over 5,000 people had been displaced
in the 40 attacks on communities in the southern part of the state since
2011.
Addressing a news conference in
Kaduna, the President the SOKAPU, Dr Ephraim Goje, asked the state
government to urgently compensate the displaced victims by rebuilding
their houses, and providing them with food items.
“The government should urgently consider our request for the siting a
military barrack within Kafanchan town to enable them respond quickly
to issues with the town,” he said.
He urged the government to consider the requests are urgent, as rains will set in soon.
