Shakira Address Backlash to Rihanna Video with Witty Comeback

Colombian superstar entertainer Shakira is not only talented and beautiful but she possesses a quick, sharp wit that makes her even more attractive to her fans. Recently she has been the focus of complaints because of a provocative music video that she filmed with fellow music artist "Rihanna" for the song "Can't Remember to Forget You" because some political conservatives feel that the video is promoting lesbianism.

Shakira addressed the issue while attending the opening of a new school by her charity foundation, "Pies Descalzos" by stating that because her boyfriend, footballer star Gerard Pique "does not allow her to do videos with men, I have to make them with women". The comment, which was made in response to the complaints made by a Colombian conservative councilman showed a side of Shakira that while not constantly promoted has been part of her throughout her entire recording career.

 

Music insiders smirked when they read this comment from Shakira because despite her beautiful, sweet appearance the music industry knows that Shakira is a very strong, intelligent, feisty and stubborn artist who will not allow herself to be pushed around. Early in her career Shakira refused to promote her second album, "Peligro" because she was unhappy with what was released and the album was a commercial failure despite receiving critical acclaim. As such Shakira's spicy retort to the conservative politicians who criticized her video with Rihanna despite it being very popular with her fans is not a surprise to those who have followed her outstanding music career.

Shakira has released two versions of the song "Can't Remember to Forget You", an English speaking version with Rihanna and a Spanish version without Rihanna but with all the controversy that this song has created it would not be a surprise to music industry insiders if Shakira decides to create another video with all women just to stoke the publicity fires even a little more.
